Cleft Portrait Cabinets

These are new additions to my Cleft series in which a single log is cleft in half to reveal two dramatic opposing faces. These new works in the series are proportioned as traditional portrait paintings and hung together so as to accentuate the front facing symmetrical peculiarity of the divided forms. These pieces are a continuing collaboration with the renowned company Hinoki Kougei in Japan, specifically the highly respected craftsman Tadanori Tozawa, son of the president, Mr Chuzo Tozawa.

The ongoing series is commissioned by Sarah Myerscough Gallery in London. Pieces from the extended series are in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert museum in London and Le Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap) as well as several private collections. Please see the original project page for further information about this series.
